We were delighted to be invited to take part in Quarriers Carer’s Day at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. It was a fantastic opportunity to come together with carers from across the country for a day focused on connection, wellbeing and support.
The event created a welcoming space for carers to prioritise their mental health while also learning more about the support available to them in their local areas. It was inspiring to see so many organisations and families coming together to share experiences, build connections and support one another.
Representing Children’s Health Scotland, Niki, Neil and Rhianne were on hand throughout the day to share information about Health Rights, our Care Experienced Service, and how families can access our Self Management Skills Programmes.
Supporting Children and Young People Through Self Management
Our Self Management Skills programmes are designed to support children and young people living with health conditions to build confidence, develop practical coping strategies and better understand their health and wellbeing. The Programmes are completely free and are for children aged 9-17/ Through creative, interactive and supportive sessions, children and young people explore topics such as managing emotions, understanding their health, and building resilience, while also connecting with others who may have similar experiences.
We are pleased to share that our next in person Self Management Skills Programme is due to begin in late August. Carers and families can refer children and young people directly, helping them to access support in a safe and engaging environment. You can refer by CLICKING HERE.
The Importance of Coming Together
Reflecting on the day, Rhianne Forrest, Officer for Children’s Health Scotland, said:
Days like today are so important. Carers play a vital role in supporting children and young people, and it is essential that they have opportunities to connect, access support and focus on their own wellbeing. Being able to speak with families and share information about health rights and the support available is incredibly valuable.
A Day of Connection and Wellbeing
It was a truly positive day for health and wellbeing, with meaningful conversations, new connections and shared learning throughout. We were also grateful for the opportunity to connect with other charities and organisations who are working so hard to support families across Scotland.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Quarriers for inviting us to be part of such an important event and for their ongoing work to ensure carers are supported and informed about the health rights of children and young people.
