Roaring with excitement and packed with imagination, our latest SMS HUB session took young people on a virtual safari adventure — all from the comfort of home. From spotting “wild” treasures to creating brand-new species, it was a journey full of curiosity, creativity and connection.
Starting Our Safari
We kicked things off with a safari-themed scavenger hunt that got everyone moving and exploring their surroundings. Young people searched for items inspired by the wild — from something spotted or brown like a camouflaged animal, to essential items they’d pack for a real safari adventure. Laughter, storytelling and quick thinking filled the session as everyone shared their finds, making it a brilliant way to break the ice and get conversations flowing.
Getting Creative
Next, imaginations ran wild as participants designed their very own safari animals. The creativity on display was incredible — from bold animal hybrids to carefully thought-out habitats and unique survival skills. Each creation was completely different, reflecting the personalities and ideas of the young people who brought them to life. It was a joy to see such originality and confidence in sharing their designs.
Building Confidence and Connection
Beyond the fun and adventure, something just as important was happening. Young people were building confidence, connecting with one another, and developing key self-management skills in a supportive and welcoming space. Whether speaking up to share an idea, asking questions, or encouraging others, everyone played a part in creating a positive group experience.
Talking about the SMS:HUB, Eilidh Findlay, Coordinator at Children’s Health Scotland said:
Sessions like this show just how powerful creativity and play can be in helping young people build confidence and connect with others. Seeing everyone join in, share ideas and support each other was fantastic.
A Wildly Memorable Session
From imaginative animal creations to fascinating safari stories, this session was full of discovery and adventure. It highlighted how themed activities can spark curiosity and make learning feel exciting, relaxed and accessible.
We’re already looking forward to the next journey… where will the SMS HUB take us next?
