For many of the children and young people we support, days out aren’t always straightforward. They can involve careful planning, managing medical needs, and navigating environments that don’t always feel accessible or inclusive. That’s why Dreamnight at Blair Drummond Safari Park is so special — it offers families the chance to leave those pressures behind and simply enjoy time together.
Dreamnight gives families the chance to enjoy something they might not otherwise be able to access. It’s always amazing to see everyone relax, have fun and just enjoy being together,
shared our coordinator, Eilidh.
Exploring at Their Own Pace
This year, we were delighted to support 150 children and young people, alongside their families, to attend the event. From the moment families arrived, there was a real sense of excitement in the air. Children spotted giraffes stretching up to the trees, watched lemurs up close, and marvelled at the powerful big cats. For some, it was their first time seeing these animals in real life. For others, it was about sharing a memorable experience together — something that can be difficult to find.
Time Together That Truly Matters
What makes Dreamnight stand out is how it brings the whole family into the experience. So often, outings are built around meeting one child’s needs. This evening creates space for everyone — siblings, parents and carers — to enjoy something side by side. Those shared smiles, moments of laughter, and the freedom to just be together without added pressure are what families tell us they value most. And it’s those moments that stay long after the evening comes to an end.
Growing Confidence Through New Experiences
Throughout the evening, we saw children and young people gently push their boundaries, supported by a welcoming and understanding environment. Whether it was approaching an animal enclosure, trying something new, or simply feeling relaxed in an unfamiliar space, each small step matters. One young person told us:
I can’t travel very far, and I haven’t been able to go anywhere for a while. I loved getting to see the animals, especially the big cats!
Strengthening Connections
Dreamnight also holds a special place for our SMS Hub community. It was one of the first occasions many of our families met in person back in 2022, and each year it continues to bring people together. Parents chat and share experiences, children make new friends, and families connect with others who understand their journey. It becomes about more than just a visit — it’s about feeling part of something.
The Little Moments That Make the Biggest Difference
While the animals are unforgettable, it’s often the quieter moments that mean the most — a child feeling confident, a family enjoying a stress-free outing, or simply taking things at their own pace in a space that feels inclusive. Dreamnight is a powerful reminder of why accessible experiences matter. They create opportunities for connection, build confidence, and allow children, young people and families to make positive memories together.
Thank You
We are incredibly grateful to Blair Drummond Safari Park and the Dreamnight organisers for making this thoughtful event possible once again. Their support ensures that so many families can enjoy an evening where everyone feels welcome, included, and able to simply enjoy being together.
