Six years ago, our world changed in ways we never imagined. The COVID‑19 pandemic reshaped daily life for children, young people, families, and communities across Scotland and around the world. It was a time filled with uncertainty — but it was also a time when stories, creativity, and moments of connection became essential.
As we mark the 6th anniversary of COVID‑19, we are honoured to share a special Story With Rory moment. Our brilliant friend and storyteller Rory Crawford reads And The People Stayed Home, a gentle and reflective piece inspired by those early months when life slowed down and people found new ways to care for themselves and each other.
This story invites us to look back with compassion, to acknowledge how far we’ve all come, and to recognise the resilience that carried children, families, and communities through an extraordinary time.
Why this story matters today
For many children and young people with long‑term health conditions, the pandemic brought added layers of isolation, disruption, and worry. Yet it also revealed their remarkable creativity, strength, and adaptability. The Children’s Health Scotland Community showed, time and again, what courage looks like in real life.
And The People Stayed Home offers a space to pause and honour those experiences — the memories, the challenges, and the moments of hope that helped shape the journey.
A moment to breathe, reflect, and connect
We know that stories support wellbeing, help us process big emotions, and bring us together when the world feels complicated. Rory’s thoughtful reading provides a quiet moment to:
- ⭐ Reflect on the past six years
- ⭐ Celebrate the strength of children, young people, families, and health professionals
- ⭐ Remember the importance of kindness and community
- ⭐ Look ahead with hope and compassion
Wherever you are — at home, in hospital, or gathered with family — we hope this story brings comfort and connection.

Looking forward with care
As we continue to defend the health rights and wellbeing of all children and young people in Scotland, we carry the lessons of the pandemic with us — not only the challenges, but also the creativity, resilience, and community spirit that helped us through.
To every child, young person, parent, carer, volunteer, and health professional who has been part of our Children’s Health Scotland Community: thank you. Your stories, your strength, and your voices matter — today and always.
