During the October School Holidays, Kinship Care families from across Scotland joined us for a truly intergalactic experience at Dynamic Earth — and what a cosmic adventure it was!
Dressed in space suits and moon boots, our young explorers and their families embarked on a mission filled with stellar self-management skills, teamwork, and imagination. Together, we:
- 🛸 Befriended aliens using courage and collaboration
- 👨🚀 Built our very own Health Rights Defender Astronauts
- 🐾 Transformed into interstellar space animals
- 🌋 Journeyed to a very bumpy planet
- 💫 Strengthened connections through play, creativity, and shared experiences
Our creative energy soared as we designed and launched our own rockets, culminating in a joyful BLAST OFF parade that showcased our amazing art and mindfulness. One young explorer shared:
“I loved building my rocket! Mine had rainbow flames and a window for my space bear. When we did the BLAST OFF parade, I felt like a real astronaut showing everyone my mission. It was the best day ever — I want to fly to space again!” – Young Explorer, age 9
And of course, no space mission is complete without a yummy lunch to refuel our adventurers!
The day reached astronomical heights when Dynamic Earth invited us to explore the stars and beyond in their breathtaking planetarium show and immersive tour — filled with creatures, myths, and wonders of our world and beyond.
One Kinship Carer reflected on the day:
“It was another great day. These adventures mean so much to our families — the children talk about it all month once they’ve signed up. It gives them something to look forward to, something that’s just for them. You can see how much it lifts them.” – Kinship Carer
Helen Bauld, Training, Programmes, and Funding Manager, shared:
“These days are vital for Kinship Care families. Not only do they teach children self-management skills and all about their health rights, they offer a chance to connect, play, and know they have something special to do together during the school holidays. It’s about community — keeping that spirit alive and showing Kinship Carers they’re not alone. We wouldn’t be able to do days like today without the generous support from the ALLIANCE and Children’s Aid Scotland.”
This OUTTA THIS WORLD day reminded us that connection, creativity, and courage are the fuel for self-management and wellbeing. Thank you to all the families who joined us, and to Dynamic Earth for helping us reach for the stars.
