Family Fund – a charity that provides grants to families raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person – is calling for more families in Scotland to apply for a grant before February 2022.
The charity has recently received extra funding from the Scottish Government, which means additional funds are now available for essential items such as clothing, computer equipment, family breaks, domestic appliances or sensory toys and play equipment.
Salena Begley MBE, Partner Engagement Manager for Family Fund, stated: “We are delighted to have received some extra funding from the Scottish Government in the last few weeks, which means we are now in a position to provide grant support to hundreds more families in Scotland. Winter can be a particularly difficult time for families raising a disabled or seriously ill child, and many families in this situation will be looking for extra help over the coming weeks. At Family Fund we provide grants for essential items such as clothing, computer equipment, domestic appliances and sensory toys, and we have provided grant support to more than 5,000 families already this year.”
Anne Wilson, head of Development for Children’s Health Scotland, has said “At Children’s Health Scotland we are delighted to hear that the Family Fund has been awarded extra funding by the Scottish Government to cover increased costs of living and the stresses of the winter period for example, rising heating costs. We work with families caring for care-experienced children, where there is a disproportionately higher number of children with disabilities. Kinship Carers in particular can find themselves disadvantaged due to the variability of entitlement to support from local authorities. These families benefit enormously from the grants made available through the Family Fund.”
