Children’s rights in healthcare are no longer just best practice—they’re the law. With Scotland’s landmark incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots law as of July 2024, professionals across health, education, social care, and justice are now legally required to uphold these rights in every decision and interaction. The EACH Charter further strengthens this framework, ensuring that children’s voices, dignity, and wellbeing are central in healthcare settings.
Health rights training equips your team to meet these legal duties confidently and compassionately. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about transforming care. Booking training now ensures your organisation is prepared, informed, and aligned with the new standards, avoiding risk and delivering the rights-based care every child deserves.
What Is the EACH Charter?
The EACH Charter outlines ten fundamental rights for children in healthcare settings, including the right to be accompanied by parents, to receive information appropriate to their age and understanding, and to be protected from unnecessary medical procedures. It aligns closely with the principles of the UNCRC, particularly the right to be heard and to participate in decisions affecting one’s health.
Why Health Rights Training Is Essential
With the UNCRC now enshrined in law, professionals must be equipped to:
- Recognise and respond to children’s rights in everyday practice.
- Ensure participation of children and young people in decisions about their care.
- Challenge practices that may be incompatible with the new legal framework.
- Support inclusive, rights-based approaches across services.
Health Rights Training provides the tools and confidence to do just that. It bridges the gap between policy and practice, helping professionals embed rights-respecting approaches into their work.
