This year, we’ve been proud to support The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow on their journey to becoming #HealthRightsAware. Through monthly Health Rights Training sessions and our engaging stalls in the hospital’s Atrium, we’ve worked together to make health rights visible, accessible, and empowering for everyone who walks through the hospital doors.
Our stalls have become a space for connection, creativity, and conversation—where patients, staff, children, and families can learn about their health rights in fun and meaningful ways. At the heart of this work are our Health Rights Defenders: young people who share their experiences and help shape how health rights are understood and respected in healthcare settings.
Together, we’ve made sure that everyone—whether they’re receiving care, providing it, or supporting a loved one—knows what their rights are when visiting the hospital. From the right to be heard, to the right to play, to the right to the best possible health, these conversations are helping build a culture of rights-based care.
Families visiting our stalls can also chat with us about our free Self-Management Skills (SMS) Programmes for children and young people aged 9–17. These programmes support young people with long-term health conditions to build confidence, learn practical skills, and connect with others who understand their journey. Our next in-person programme begins on 21 February 2026, and we’re excited to welcome new participants. You can find out more HERE.
Health rights and self-management go hand in hand. When children and young people know their rights, they’re better equipped to advocate for themselves, make informed choices, and feel empowered in their healthcare experiences. That’s why our SMS Programmes are rooted in rights-based education—because every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and heard.
Our final stall of 2025 will take place on Friday 5 December from 9am to 12pm, and we’d love for you to join us! It’s a celebration of all we’ve achieved together—and a look ahead to even more exciting plans in 2026.
“Working in partnership with The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow has been incredibly important to us. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are truly leading the way in becoming a Health Rights Aware Health Board. Their active participation, commitment to training, and ongoing support show how deeply they believe in our Health Rights Service. We’re proud to stand alongside them as changemakers in this space.”
