This special anniversary edition of our Spring/Summer magazine highlights the voices, stories and experiences of the children, young people, families, carers and volunteers who shape our work every single day. From the powerful messages behind our new Every Child’s Right to Health Manifesto, to the creativity and leadership of our Health Rights Defenders, the magazine shines a light on the urgent need for change — and the inspiring young people leading the way.
Commenting on the publication of the magazine, Helen Forrest, Chief Executive of Children’s Health Scotland, said:
This edition is full of the energy, honesty and courage we hear every day from the children and young people we support. Their voices challenge Scotland to do better — and their ideas give us hope. As we celebrate 50 years of supporting children’s health and rights, we remain absolutely committed to pushing for the action, investment and compassion they deserve.
Inside, readers will find powerful personal insights from children living with long‑term health conditions, updates on our Self‑Management Skills Programmes, new developments in our Care Experienced Service, and the incredible work being done through FLOURISH to support mothers and young children settling in Dundee. The magazine also spotlights the transformative impact of safe spaces, creative play, and rights‑based practice across all our services.
With nominations now open for the Scottish Children’s Health Awards 2026, this issue also celebrates the remarkable children, young people, professionals and volunteers who make extraordinary contributions to children’s health and wellbeing. Journalist and presenter Catriona Shearer will once again join us to share the winners’ stories during Scottish Children’s Health Week.
The magazine is packed with ways to get involved too — from spring fundraising ideas to challenge events, volunteering opportunities, and details on how to become a Friend of Children’s Health Scotland.
Helen added:
Everything in this edition reflects what matters most: ensuring children feel heard, safe, respected and supported in every part of their healthcare journey. That has always been at the heart of our mission — and it always will be.
