Children’s Health Scotland is seeking a new Treasurer to join our Board and help guide the financial sustainability of our work with children, young people and families across Scotland. This opportunity arises as our current Treasurer prepares to step down after an exceptional nine years of dedicated service to the charity. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment and contribution, and we now look forward to welcoming a new Treasurer to build on this strong foundation.
Commenting on the recruitment of a new Treasurer to join the Board, Helen Forrest, Chief Executive, Children’s Health Scotland said:
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Treasurer for their outstanding contribution over the past nine years. Their commitment, insight and careful stewardship have helped strengthen our organisation and ensure we are in a strong position for the future. On behalf of everyone at Children’s Health Scotland, we wish them all the very best, and we look forward to welcoming a new Treasurer to continue this important work.
About the Role
The Treasurer is an Office Bearer and a member of our Board, responsible for providing oversight of our financial health, sustainability and integrity. Working closely with the Chair, Board members and Chief Executive, the Treasurer supports strong financial governance, informed decision-making and long-term planning. This is a strategic role, focusing on oversight rather than day-to-day financial management, which is delivered by our staff team and external finance support.
What You’ll Do
You will:
- Provide oversight of Children’s Health Scotland’s financial position, ensuring viability and sustainability
- Support the Board to understand financial information and make informed decisions
- Review and present budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements
- Monitor income, expenditure and reserves, and highlight financial risks and opportunities
- Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed
- Support compliance with charity law, OSCR requirements and statutory reporting obligations
- Contribute to financial planning and advise on the implications of strategy and new initiatives
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Experience of financial management, budgeting or accounting
- An understanding of charity finance and governance (or willingness to learn)
- The ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly
- Strong analytical thinking, sound judgement and attention to detail
- A collaborative approach and commitment to our values
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to improving the health, wellbeing and rights of children and young people.
Why Join Us?
As a Board member and Office Bearer, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of Children’s Health Scotland—supporting our strategic direction, strengthening our governance, and ensuring we continue to deliver meaningful impact. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your expertise to a respected organisation supporting thousands of children and young people each year.
