Monkeys, penguins, giraffes and even baby Bru all made an appearance as children and young people from across Scotland enjoyed a fantastic virtual visit to Edinburgh Zoo. The session formed part of our SMS:HUB, a programme that brings young people together online to build confidence, develop self-management skills and create meaningful connections in a supportive environment.
From the moment everyone logged on, the session was filled with laughter, curiosity and plenty of conversation. Young people explored the zoo from the comfort of home, discovering fascinating animals, sharing their favourites and connecting with others who share similar experiences and interests.
The evening offered plenty of opportunities to learn something new, ask questions and take part in fun discussions, with young people enthusiastically sharing animal facts and wildlife stories of their own.
Rhianne Forrest, Children’s Health Scotland, said:
Our partnership with Edinburgh Zoo has been absolutely fantastic for Children’s Health Scotland and the children and young people we support. Throughout the year, the team at Edinburgh Zoo goes above and beyond to create engaging and accessible experiences that spark curiosity, laughter and learning. Being able to join these sessions from home means that children and young people who may not be able to visit the zoo in person can still enjoy the experience and feel connected to the animals and the natural world. This session was a real highlight, and it was wonderful to meet so many amazing animals, especially baby Bru, who was definitely a favourite! Through opportunities like this, young people can build confidence, connect with peers, develop communication skills and strengthen important self-management skills, all while having fun and creating lasting memories.
A huge thank you to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the team at Edinburgh Zoo for helping create another memorable SMS:HUB experience.
