healthandcare.scot, Scotland’s Health and Care News Channel, is today urging parents and carers to make sure their child is protected from flu this winter by taking part in flu vaccination programmes.
The uptake rate for the flu vaccine among primary school children across the whole of Scotland last year was 72.9%, slightly short of the target of 75%.
Children have the highest flu attack rates and are more likely to pass on the virus to family, friends and the wider community. Evidence has shown protecting this age group through a vaccine results in a significant reduction in both children and adults suffering flu-like illness.
