This week (2nd – 6th November) was both International Stress Awareness Week and Youth Work Week 2020. Stress is a topic we spend a lot of time discussing in our online Self Management Programme, SMS:CONNECT, for children and young people living with long-term health conditions in Scotland.
We asked some of the children and young people who took part in our Autumn Programme to share their experiences of stress; how it makes them feel and what they do to cope.
Stress is something that children and young people live with everyday so it is really important that they have a toolkit of coping techniques that help them relieve and express feelings of stress and worry in a positive way. In SMS:CONNECT we introduce the concept of the stress bucket as a way of visualising stress and the effect that it can have on your daily life. We also explore different ways of coping with stress, from expressive writing to breathing exercises.
